Nonprofit Board and Staff Members - Does your organization share all the ways you could encourage gifts?

Nonprofit Board and Staff Members - Does your organization share all the ways you could encourage gifts?

As I get to know my client, Montana Legal Services Association (MLSA), I am reminded of the value of cy pres* and residual settlement awards as a means for those in the legal profession to contribute. Kudos for MLSA for sharing multiple options.

What about your organization? Are you communicating all the different ways people can support the work you do?

Before you do any marketing, ensure your policies and procedures allow for the actual efficient transfer of assets.

Want to encourage a gift of real estate or an art collection?

Accept an endowment gift?

Charitable gift annuities?

Many other giving opportunities exist.

You might need new or revised board level policies to handle these gifts, or possibly a third-party relationship to process the contribution in compliance with law and to minimize any potential liabilities associated with the gift.  All of that can be arranged.

The hurdle of preparation may be perceived by some as a nuisance. However, the value of planning will be celebrated when the gift arrives, sometimes without warning.

Inbox me – I’m happy to help with this kind of planning.
