Sometimes Supper Clubs Embed a Charitable Mission
#Nonprofits can come in the form of a restaurant [501 (c)(7) organization].
Originally started as a local support #network for Sicilian #immigrantsabout 115 years ago, Messina Social Club changed hands in 2019 with the goal of serving up excellent food in a warm neighborhood environment.
One of the co-owners, a Maltese-American, wanted to create a situation where #funding to local causes such as #educational institutions and #food #banks were prioritized.
The combination of an excellent restaurant with that of a charitable cause drew a lot of foodies who care for their neighborhoods throughout the city and want to support a place that does more than serve a great meal and offer a wonderful space.
There are hundreds, if not more, of examples around the country of similar nonprofit structures like this one and I invite others to share their experience.
Thanks, Ashley Suhler Tobin, for introducing me four+ years ago.
