There is a Pink Elephant in the Room (So cuddly, no?)

Pink Elephant

How can we more effectively engage LGBTQ+ #donors when we find the #donor database does not track folks by gender identity and sexual orientation?

That's reality at most #nonprofits, including many of those that primarily serve LGBTQ+ people (Anderson et al, 2018) (LGBT Giving Project - Burns et al, 2020). Some groups already do this in their #databases:

*** Many #organizations keep tabs on LGBTQ+ donors within notes sections

*** Some nonprofits add self-identified pronouns that donors use

*** Other groups make sure they document same-sex households

*** Still others want to make sure they can make #fundraising teams know about someone’s *self-disclosed, public gender identity and sexual orientation by labeling files or by creating “campaigns” or “lists.”
