What is on your To Do List regarding your team?

18 to 22 months are the mean and median tenures of development staff these days, depending on which of the many studies on the subject you cite.
Further, a good % of jobs remain open and unfilled for 3 to 6 months, sometimes longer.
On my list to do better, knowing the reality of development staffing:
1. Create and support an environment that recognizes staff for their contributions.
2. Learn what motivates your team, ask about their short- and long-term career plans, and build in training and work challenges to help them grow.
3. Actively encourage breaks and vacations to prevent burnout.
4. Accept that people will leave and strive to build lasting relationships beyond the current season.
