Can working with a second monitor increase productivity?
I cast a leery eye toward #market-based intelligence produced by #manufacturers - or those studies surreptitiously funded by a company that may ultimately benefit from the research findings.
I’d seen so-called #evidence and hype that a second monitor provides 20, 30 percent or more of improved #efficiency. My initial thought was: hogwash.
But does it *feel* 20% better to sit at one's desk and work with a second monitor - from my perspective, yes.
Still, I was looking for hard data of an #ROI. I tend to trust academic research with reliable and objective methods, coupled with multiple attempts to approach the question.
Enter University of Utah. Thank you to the folks in Provo.
According to their research, I can expect roughly a 10% increase in productivity with a second monitor in use all the time. No, a larger monitor beyond 30" may not extend the ROI. Yes, they tested this in multiple ways.
I also trust the people in my life— like tech workplace #expert Paul Grossman from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Thanks to the research and my trusted ‘real life’ source I made the purchase. All I need to do now is #install the #monitor
