Elders mentored, advised, coached, and helped me.
Today, I call two people mentors or advisors, depending on the day of the week. They may or may not know who they are.
My view is that it is essential to #payitforward and for years I’ve been quietly doing the same for virtually anyone who asked or to whom I was referred. I'm proud of those individuals who have made thoughtful decisions in their #careers and I enjoy watching them make further progress.
Sometimes folks simply want a one-time chat, while for others, it's an ongoing relationship.
My first full-time work experience was serving as an admissions and financial aid counselor. For 4 years, I interviewed thousands of individuals of all ages. That experience of helping others as they made a significant life decision is where I draw my intuition on how to #help, #guide, #mentor, or #coach.
Although I don’t have any official #resolutions for 2021, I pledge to continue this intrinsically rewarding activity. While I don’t often talk about mentoring, I thought it was worth sharing a few thoughts on the subject today.
