OK, We've Heard about the Steep Drop in Giving. Now What?
Reliably and routinely, Emily Haynes and Rasheeda Childress share their astute insights using multiple data sources (e.g., Giving USA Foundation, Candid, Fidelity Charitable®, Vanguard Charitable, etc.).
I appreciate the duo's The Chronicle of Philanthropy assessments, #data review, and #qualitative summaries from frontline #fundraisersand #development professionals. An example: https://lnkd.in/eia_nH4C
The facts show in the past 18 months:
a. Steep drops in individual and #corporate #giving
b. Where there were increases in certain giving categories - most gains were wiped out by rising #inflation
c. #Foundations (77%) plan to either hold steady or decline #grants
How to counter the losses? Let's face the reality of the #marketplace. An incomplete list of options:
1. Support and celebrate staff working outside the #majorgifts teams as they are working the pipeline to future major and planned gifts. Many nonprofits center attention on the largest of gifts and staff working on them.
2. Make a case for resources for #operations to address inflation and need for administrative investments such as #CRM and social media engagement #tools
3. While many groups drop #investments in cultivating smaller donors, don't avoid those submarkets since a lack of communication will result in less funding and lowered #donor retention
